It is with deep sadness that the Culver City Police Department shares the passing of retired K9 Ander.

Ander proudly served our department for nearly eight years after joining CCPD in November 2016, working alongside his handler, Officer Kakuk. Throughout his career, Ander exemplified dedication, courage, and unwavering loyalty. He played a critical role in dozens of patrol and detection deployments, contributing to the arrest of numerous felony suspects and the seizure of millions of dollars in drug-related proceeds, as well as approximately two tons of illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin.

Beyond narcotics enforcement, Ander assisted in countless patrol operations, from high-risk traffic stops to burglary investigations, suspect apprehensions, and evidence searches. Ander was always there helping to keep officers and the community safe.

One particularly notable accomplishment took place on April 25, 2020, when Ander helped locate and apprehend a burglary suspect hiding inside a closed business who refused to surrender. K9 Ander’s work that night directly led to the arrest of a repeat offender and enhanced the safety of responding officers and our community.

K9 Ander was more than a working dog. He was a trusted partner, a loyal protector, and a valued member of our CCPD family. His service and impact will not be forgotten.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Officer Kakuk, the K9 Unit, and all who had the privilege of working alongside Ander.

Rest in peace, K9 Ander. Thank you for your faithful service.
